Where to Buy Your Pumpkin – Halloween in Ventura County CA

4 Cool Places in Ventura County, CA to Buy A Picture Perfect Pumpkin for Halloween 2019

Every year I get a pumpkin, and every year it’s usually one of the typical orange ones from the supermarket.
Every year I go to at least one outdoor pumpkin field to see pumpkins as far as the eye can see.
This year I did something different.
I went in search of unusual pumpkin places. I wanted something beyond Halloween orange. I wanted to know where to buy pumpkins near me that had the best Halloween pumpkin displays.
I’ve put together my favorite local places in the Conejo Valley for October 2019 with why I picked these particular places.
I hope you find a perfect pumpkin for this year. And may it also be a “most sincere pumpkin.”
Have a Happy Halloween!

Bennett’s Best Pumpkin Patch

4995 Kanan Rd., Agoura Hills. (Corner of Agoura Rd. and Kanan).
Note: There is a  2nd location at 28900 Roadside Dr., Agoura Hills (by the Do It Center). It also has a bouncy slide for the kiddos to run off their energy.
Open Sunday to Thursday from 9 AM to 8 PM. Open Friday and Saturday from 9 AM to 9 PM.

What you’ll like about it:

  1. These are picture perfect pumpkins. Bennett’s has taken care to select ones with stems intact, which makes for an easy-to-remove lid during pumpkin carving. While they have mostly standard, smooth, orange pumpkins, they are all fresh and clean (no grubby dirt).
  2. Many choices including 100+ lb. Big Macs, Casparitas, Pokemons, Cinderellas, Jack-Be-Littles, and a smattering of gourds as well. My favorite gourd is the Turban.
  3. The pumpkins are housed under a tent, so they stay fresher because they’re out of the hot sun. Plus you are also shaded as you walk around during our warm October Santa Ana winds.
  4. They have a photographer, and the diffused tent lighting makes for some great shots. Just take a look at the photos I was able to grab with my phone. It’s a good place to take filtered light photos.
  5. This place is great for families with small children because they can see a wide variety of pumpkins and gourds, all beautiful and perfect for carving, and also get the fun of a big bouncy slide. Children can also run off their energy inside the tent, or outside on the slide.

Albertsons in Newbury Park

541 S. Reino Rd., Newbury Park, CA 91320 (near Kimber & Reino).

What you’ll like about it:

This supermarket has a floor to ceiling display that spans the entire entry area and is hands-down the best indoor pumpkin display I’ve ever seen. This is my favorite display of the 4.

  1. Every sort of unusual pumpkin is included. You’ll find Mellow Yellows, bumpy Knuckleheads, Cinderella-like Fairytales, small white Baby Boos as well as full size all white pumpkins. This is truly a feast for the eyes, and there’s a pumpkin for everyone. So many choices! I have never seen so many pumpkin varieties in one place. Spectacular!
  2. These pumpkins are in an air-conditioned environment, so they are in superb shape, protected from the sun, in a place that is climate-controlled by the supermarket.
  3. Get your grocery shopping done at the same time. It’s one stop shopping out of the hot sun.

Seasonal Adventures Pumpkin Patch

450 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks
(805) 532-2333
(Note: There is also a location in Simi Valley off of Erringer near the Simi Valley Town Center.  Be sure to come back in December for one of their fresh Christmas trees!)

What you’ll like about it:

  1. Large outdoor display of pumpkins placed on hay bales. Mostly the traditional orange variety, but a good place to take outside photos.
  2. They have carnival-like activities, such as a Pumpkin/Ghost slide, Ring Toss, and Conk the Crow.
This is a good place to go if you want to see hundreds and hundreds of pumpkins. They’re outside, in the sun, so be sure to bring a hat.

Underwood Family Farms in Moorpark

3370 Sunset Valley Rd., Moorpark (West of the #23, offramp is Tierra Rejada)

The working farm’s Fall Festival began on September 28, 2019 and will continue until October 31, 2019.

You’ll see tractor-drawn wagons, fields of pumpkins as well as already picked ones at the market produce stand. There’s a petting zoo, live music, animal shows, pig races, and a corn stalk maze.  You can buy tickets online or pay at the gate.

What you’ll like about it:

  1. The farm stand display of pumpkins has all sorts of varieties. Buy at the stand or grab a farm wagon and pick your own veggies as well. And they have one of the best Halloween pumpkin displays right by the parking lot.
  2. I absolutely love going to the petting zoo. The goats are full of mischief and fun to watch.
  3. If you have little ones, they get the farm experience for an afternoon. If you decide to pick-your-own veggies, be sure to get a farm cart because the fields are a big walk and your munchkins’ little legs will get tired. The farm cart (think giant wagon) is also a place to put what you pick. Be sure to pack extra shoes in case they step in mud. Been there, done that.
  4. If this is the closest you’ll get to being a gentleman farmer, so be it. Underwood Family Farms makes for a great afternoon adventure!

Wrap Up

So now are you ready for Halloween? You have a few more choices of places to go for this year’s pumpkin. It’s time to go out the front door to buy your 2019 pumpkin!

Happy pumpkin carving! May the Great Pumpkin be with you.
